PROBLEM:
A leading global provider of outsourced asset management, investment processing, and operations solutions had been a partner of RR Donnelley since 1994. The account had grown over the years, from production of just a handful of investment statements to over 2.5 million statements annually. The Company was proud of being on the ground floor of state-of-the-art market-leading investment vehicles, technology, and reporting products. (Always looking to improve the effectiveness of their communications, they became an early adopter of our full-color NovaColor® solution - powered by RR Donnelley's proprietary, innovative ProteusJetTM. ProteusJet is the industry's first 1200 dpi, inkjet web press. NovaColor is the market-leading solution for cost-effective color printing for transactional documents.)

Over the years, the Company has maintained their composition service internally, sending RRD pre-composed AFP files for all products. Realizing that our development approach, tools and techniques are fundamental to our core competency, they decided that RRD should develop future products using our composition services suite. One such product was to develop the new Advisor Goals-based Statement.

SOLUTION:
Following the Strategy and Design Services of our PIVOTSM model, BCS offered a suite of services to help make the Company identified the appropriate goals for their documents, receiving design guidance and production consulting to reach their goals. Additionally, by RR Donnelley BCS rendering the composition services, the Company was able to take advantage of PIVOT - multi-channel delivery to support not only the print but the archival requirement as well. Additional options include dynamic messaging through our On Line Message Management (OLM) tool.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT:
Customer benefits include the following:

  • The new goals-based system recasts investment accounts to illustrate "progress to goals" for investors, an approach their research has found to be more meaningful to clients.
  • The new statements will make it much easier for clients to understand exactly how their investments are doing and if they're on the right track to achieving their goals.
  • Advisors will be better able to communicate and connect with clients as the presentation is relevant to what would be discussed in a client meeting. The statement recasts investment accounts in a more meaningful way - illustrating a "progress to goals" approach.
  • The basic Reporting functionality is enhanced to individual investors.
  • Understanding that individuals have multiple goals weighted differently, goals-based investing analyzes performance not by traditional benchmarks, but rather by an individual's progress toward reaching their goal. This is also the Company's strategy to reach out more focused and personal to the individual investor.
  • Documents have superior business color coverage, and the richness and overall quality of the content layout of the communication delivers a better comprehension/understanding.
  • BCS' On Line Message Management tool allows for dynamic messaging to reach the end investor. The project launch was a huge success for the Company and the end investors. They are hearing from Advisors and end Investors exactly what they were hoping to hear … that the content is more relevant, easier to comprehend, and state-of-the-art.

PROBLEM:
A growing financial services company is an online brokerage firm with over 400 branch offices throughout the United States and about 1.5 million active accounts. They pride themselves on offering easily accessible, local branch office support of online trading. In their highly competitive market, they realize the benefits of responding immediately to prospects' requests for information with individualized materials.

The Firm wanted to improve the conversion rate of new customers, enhance the quality and image of their literature, increase efficiencies, decrease time to market, and reduce internal demands and cost for fulfilling the program. They also desired to implement a true 1:1 Marketing Program to increase their share of each customer relationship.

SOLUTION:
RR Donnelley BCS' answer to the customer's challenge was our "print-for-one" communication solution that combines the latest in digital imaging technologies with cutting-edge digital asset management and dynamic composition tools. We provide all required literature as a kit in booklet form that includes:

  • A letter introducing the brokerage's services
  • A dynamic map showing the branch location closest to the customer
  • Customized pages based on customer request
  • Business cards personalized for the local broker
  • A branch-specific envelope
  • Forms for opening and transferring an account
BCS receives up to 1,000 customer requests for these lead kits daily from the brokerage firm. Turn-around from receipt of the customer requests to mailing is only 8-10 hours. We also receive orders through CustomPointTM (our completely integrated, browser-based tool) to image books for branch offices. All information is digitally imaged onto high quality four-color preprinted shells and bound into a single document. Images are stored in an electronic library. Production efficiencies are achieved through elimination of the "kitting" process with an inline assembled book.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT:
BCS' integrated solution increased customer satisfaction and provided accurate information in a timely manner. The Firm has won prestigious awards for customer service - and attributes BCS' solution as a factor in this success. Costs to branch offices are documented for efficiencies in charge backs; new leads have risen by 300%; and, the cost of opening an account is considerably less than the industry average. BCS additionally digitally images and mails full-color follow-up postcards, and now provides tax form reporting/compliance services for this firm. We helped increase this firm's competitive advantage.

Financial - Investment #3
PROBLEM:
A leading provider of financial services is a 401(k) provider with over 500 plans that they support. BCS has produced their quarterly statements. From the initial implementation, the company desired a messaging system that would allow them to control the messages being utilized each quarter. No tools on the market could give them the desired control and effect, meet their needs, or could be cost effective.

SOLUTION:
RR Donnelley BCS, reacting to trends in the market where clients wanted more control over variable messaging that appears on their statements, created a web-based tool that would support this need. The company agreed to be the Beta customer for the On Line Messaging (OLM) service being developed by RR Donnelley BCS. Serving as a Beta customer ensured that the company would have the complexities of their program addressed and identified for possible inclusion in BCS' standard offering.

The company knows that their vital documents are a critical line of communication to their customers. They need flexibility to offer timely, relevant information. Through BCS' Collaborative Production Tool - Message ManagementTM, the company realized the following benefits:

  • OLM enables them to enter both the general quarterly messages and plan-specific messages into the system at their location . . . giving them the control they desired.
  • OLM utilizes soft proofing . . . allowing them to verify that the messages and message logic is being applied to the statement as desired.
  • Professional services costs have decreased significantly from the pre-OLM period . . . providing cost savings.
  • Control at the client site gives them new abilities . . . to test "what if" scenarios without the concern for time and cost of RRD professional services resources.
  • Speed . . . they are able to make changes on their timetable.
BCS' OLM solution has reduced the company's cost of message management significantly on a quarterly basis and given them the control they desired.
